Lucknow: Bypolls are being held on seven of the eight vacant seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Amid the by-election, the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has started preparations for the 2022 assembly by-election. SP has asked potential candidates to apply for the 2022 assembly elections.

SP chief and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav himself confirmed this by tweeting. Akhilesh has tweeted from his official Twitter handle saying that for the SP 2022 elections, applications are being sought for the seats other than the current MLAs and the seats where the by-elections are being held. Akhilesh has also given a call to come together for the public welfare development of UP.

According to media reports, SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary has said that the party has started preparing for the 2022 election. He has said that interested candidates can send their applications from October 19. He has said that potential candidates will be able to apply by January 26 next year. Chaudhary had also clarified that applications for the assembly seats on which the MLA of SP is and where the assembly by-elections are being held at this time will not be accepted.
