Lucknow: After the death of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, there has been a demand for Bharat Ratna for him. This demand has been made by SP's Sambhal MLA Nawab Iqbal Mahmood. SP MLA Mehmood has said that Mulayam Singh Yadav was the leader of the country. People of every party respected Netaji and still do. He worked to connect everyone. Such a person should be given 'Bharat Ratna'. He has asked PM Narendra Modi to consider this demand.
Earlier, SP spokesperson IP Singh had written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday (October 12, 2022) demanding Bharat Ratna for Mulayam Singh, popularly known as Netaji. IP Singh had said in his letter that 'son of the soil' Mulayam Singh will grace the Bharat Ratna. He had written in his letter that giving Bharat Ratna to Mulayam will give courage to every person who wants to raise his voice against exploitation. He never left his land and continued to do politics for the welfare of the poor all his life.
Along with this, IP Singh also demanded up CM Yogi Adityanath name the Agra-Lucknow Expressway after Mulayam Singh. He said the expressway should be named 'Son of the Soil Mulayam Singh Yadav' after Netaji. This is not the first time that a Bharat Ratna has been demanded for Mulayam Singh Yadav. In 2020, SP leader Deepak Mishra strongly raised the matter and launched a signature campaign of around 10,000 people. He had described Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was CM four times and defence minister in the central government, as a real deserving of Bharat Ratna.
