Aligarh: The hijab controversy that started from Karnatak is now slowly spreading to other states of the country. Demonstrations have also started in many parts of the country. While Hijab Day was celebrated in Malegaon, Maharashtra, a college in the Chaksu area of Jaipur Rural was asked to come in uniform, burqa-clad girl students created a ruckus. Today, it has also been announced to take out a hijab march of Muslim women in Ludhiana in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) Aligarh Mahanagar President Rubina Khanam has made an objectionable statement on the Karnataka hijab issue. Rubina has said that she will cut off the hands of those who put their hands on the hijab. India is a country of diversities, be it a tilak of the forehead or a turban. Be it a veil or a hijab. All this is an integral part of our culture and traditions. To politicize them is the height of lowliness. She said that I want to tell them not to make the mistake of considering women weak. The government may be of any party. If we put our hands on the self-respect of sisters and daughters, then we will cut off their hands by becoming Rani of Jhansi and Razia Sultan.
Let me tell you that the hijab dispute started in the Udupi district of Karnataka. Here, some students opposed the entry of girls wearing hijab/burqa into the class and they started coming to the college wearing saffron gamchha. After this, the matter also spread to other schools and colleges in Udupi. The issue is currently under consideration in the Karnataka High Court.
