Popular Youtuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, alias Beerbiceps sparked controversy over his remarks at a recent episode of comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s got Latent. The video instantly went viral, leading to a massive backlash against Ranveer Allahabadia.

The remarks led to FIR lodging in Maharashtra, issuance of summons by the National Commission of Women (NCW) and the matter even being raised in the Parliament of India. Since the matter became controversial and was widely criticized, several political leaders, celebrities, influencers and social media users are urging for a strict action against all those involved.

Following the controversy and backlash, Samay Raina removed all the clips of the episodes of India’s got Latent. Taking to social media, the comedian posted on Wednesday, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I’ll fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thankyou.”

After the public outcry, Samay Raina’s Gujarat show has been cancelled, as claimed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). It cited that the crass nature of the show ‘India’s got Latent’ is the reason behind the cancellation. Raina’s Gujarat visit was scheduled in April, the tickets for the show have also been removed from the Online Booking platform Bookmyshow.

The entire controversy began when Ranveer Allahabadia asked an inappropriate, condemning question to a contestant on India’s got Latent. During the episode, Allahabadia went on asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?” The other figures who were a part of the episode and involved in its judge panel include comedian Ashish Chanchlani, actor-comedian Jaspreet Singh and social media influencer known as the ‘rebel kid’ Apoorva Makhija. Summons have been issued to them along with the show’s producers.

Ranveer Allahabadia had also issued a public apology after the controversy saying it was “inappropriate, not funny and a lapse in judgement.”

Actor Rajpal Yadav and producer Boney Kapoor also criticized the show and those involved saying that they do not endorse such kind of comedy and believe in self-censorship, people like these are hungry for “sasti popularity”. AR Rahman and Vicky Kaushal also made cryptic comments at the music launch of the latter’s upcoming film ‘Chhava’.
