Puri: BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Puri constituency, Sambit Patra is seen doing 'Sashtang Pranam' at the end of the election campaign at the Lord Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha on Sunday. The crowd gathered behind Patra can be heard asking everyone to give him space to do the prostration gesture. The video of the incident is going viral on the internet.
Recently, Patra had made it to the news a couple of days ago when he sang songs in Telugu to connect with the "the sizeable Telugu population" in the constituency. The BJP candidate from Puri sang two popular songs to impress the crowd- a Telugu song named 'Bangaru Kodipetta' and a romantic song titled 'Tum Mile Dil Khile'.

While doing a 'Sashtang Pranaam', one is required to place his body in a submissive position such that the body parts above the knee touch the ground, especially the hands. It's a common practice of worshipping to a supreme being.

During a recent campaign rally in the state, Patra was also seen holding an idol of Lord Jagannath. A complained was filed with the Election Commission against him for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
