As a corrective measure to the 35 cases of explosions of Galaxy Note 7 phones, Samsung has dropped its in-house battery-maker, SDI which made over 65% of the batteries used in the Note 7.

It has been identified that Samsung SDI was responsible for the faults. While the company claims that only 0.01% of the devices may be affected if one uses basic mathematical knowledge and calculates the 65% of the 2.5 million Note 7 units already sold, the figure comes out to be 1,625,000.

What may add more to the trouble of the company and that of the product holders is the fact that 65% is the figure given by the Washington Post; Korea Herald claims the no. to be above 70%.

The company has now roped in Chinese company ATL, which had already provided the battery for some Note 7s (most notably the China and Hong Kong variants; probably the reason why units were not called back there).

It will be interesting to see how the company now reacts since this news is out and 2 more explosions have been reported, one where the phone wasn’t even on charging!
