Sanjay Dutt, the son of legendary actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, had a promising start in Bollywood in the 90s. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he was arrested under the TADA Act in 1993 for his alleged involvement in the Bombay blasts. The industry turned its back on him, and he was banned from working in films.
Years later, Sanjay Dutt made a remarkable comeback with the film "Munnabhai MBBS" produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. In a conversation at the Kellogg Management School, Chopra revealed that he didn't know Dutt personally but felt that the industry's boycott was unfair. He went to Dutt's house and announced a film with him, despite warnings that he would also face a ban.
In 2007, Dutt was acquitted of all terror charges but sentenced to six years in prison for possessing illegal arms. He served time in Pune's Yerwada Jail from 2013-16. In 2020, during his comeback journey, Dutt was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He underwent treatment in Mumbai and recovered.
Dutt's comeback was nothing short of spectacular. While undergoing cancer treatment, he signed his first Kannada film "KGF Chapter 2", where he played the villainous Adheera. The film released in 2022 and broke box office records worldwide, earning over Rs 1200 crore. He then appeared in a cameo in "Jawan" (2023) and played another negative role in the Tamil film "Leo". These three films collectively earned around Rs 3000 crore, marking a triumphant return for Dutt. The actor has five films lined up for release in 2024, cementing his position as a bankable star once again. Sanjay Dutt's journey is a testament to his resilience and determination, making him an inspiration to many.
