Amravati: Two persons have been arrested and seven are wanted for raising provocative slogans during an Eid-e-Milad procession in a village in Maharashtra's Amravati district, police said on Saturday. Police reported this on Tuesday. A video of the procession held in Amravati's Paratwada village on Sunday surfaced on social media, following which a case was registered the next day, an official said.

While two criminals, aged 25 and 35, were arrested on Monday, seven others are wanted in the case, he said. All of them were allegedly raising provocative slogans of "Sir Tan Se Juda" during the procession, he said. The Amravati rural police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant provisions of the Bombay Police Act, the official said.

In another incident in Maharashtra, two saints were lynched by a mob in Palghar on April 16, 2020. This case caught a lot of attention at that time. Now the Shinde faction-BJP government in the state has agreed to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI. The Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it has no objection to handing over the probe into the 2020 Palghar lynching case to the CBI. In an affidavit filed in the court, the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government has said that it is ready to hand over the investigation of the Palghar mob lynching case to the CBI.
