Kolkata: On Thursday, a team of ten Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers will reach Kolkata and Shillong to probe Saradha chit fund scam. The development comes in the backdrop of Supreme Court (SC) ruling that West Bengal Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar must co-operate with CBI in the investigation while giving him immunity from arrest till the end of February.

However, BJP, which had questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's support to Kumar, also claimed victory as the top court asked Kumar to present before the CBI on or before February 20 and also issued a contempt notice to the Chief Secretary, DG and West Bengal Police.  The team of the CBI officials which left New Delhi for Kolkata and Shillong include one SP, two deputy SPs, three additional SP officers and four inspectors. Some of the officers will reach Kolkata later today and the remaining officers will reach Shillong.

While the development comes after the latter detained the CBI officers who reached Kumar's residence to question him in the cases pertaining to Saradha chit fund and Rose Valley cases and  a huge showdown between the CBI and West Bengal government on Sunday.  Mamata Banerjee vouched for Kumar saying he is an honest officer and sat on a 'Save India' dharna alleging that CBI's move was politically motivated against her government. Her agitation lasted for three days.
