RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has announced the ongoing Hajj season is successful and safe. Saudi Prince Khaled Al-Faisal announced the success of the pilgrimage of 2022 at all security, service and health levels, as per reports quoted by the Saudi Press Agency.
The prince commended government initiatives, projects, and all those involved in providing services to pilgrims for the fact that neither accidents nor epidemic diseases were reported among pilgrims.
The current Hajj season's health strategy was effective because no major public health emergencies or epidemic outbreaks occurred, Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel said. He said, only 38 Covid-19 cases were found in the holy sites and were all handled in accordance with medical guidelines.
Following a two-year suspension due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Mecca light rail resumed its pilgrimage transporting operation between July 6 and July 12, successfully conveying tens of thousands of pilgrims on schedule. Since the coronavirus outbreak in 2020, Saudi Arabia has only permitted domestic pilgrims to do the Hajj; this year is the first time that this has changed.
According to data released on Friday by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics, there were 899,353 pilgrims overall during the current Hajj season, comprising 779,919 foreign and 119,434 domestic pilgrims.
