New Delhi: The series of allegations and counter-allegations about freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar i.e. Veer Savarkar is not ending. Continuing his attack against the BJP and the RSS, senior Congress leader, and national general secretary Jairam Ramesh has said that Savarkar always tried to break India into pieces, and the BJP-RSS are doing the same. During a press conference in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, Ramesh said, 'Meanwhile, we (Congress) are trying to unite India.'

According to the report, stating the importance of the mass movement of the Congress, the party's general secretary Jairam Ramesh has said, 'The country is constantly breaking up due to economic challenges, the polarization of the society and dictatorship in politics, that is why we have undertaken the Bharat Jodo Yatra.' Ramesh has reiterated that 'The Savarkar chapter is closed.' Ramesh said that Savarkar's chapter has already ended for the Congress during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and it is anyway a 'side issue' for the party in view of the main objective of the Yatra.

Rahul Gandhi's controversial comments on Savarkar angered his ally, Shiv Sena. Sanjay Raut, the leader of Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray-led faction, went so far as to say that the Congress's attack on the Hindu Mahasabha leader could affect the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra.
