Story - According to Shiv Puran, once a dispute arose between Brahma and Vishnu as to who was the best among the two? Brahmaji was claiming to be the best being the creator of the universe and Lord Vishnu was calling himself superior as the follower of the entire creation. In the meantime, a huge Jyotirmaya Linga appeared there. It was decided by both gods that whoever finds the end of this Jyotirmaya Linga first, will be considered the best. Hence, both set out to find the end of Shivling in the opposite direction.

Vishnu returned due to a lack of ends. After that Brahma also did not succeed but he came and told Vishnu that he had reached the end. He described Ketaki flower as a witness to this. Lord Shiva himself appeared there on Brahmaji's untruth and he criticized Brahmaji. Both the gods praised Mahadev. Then Shivji said that I am the cause, originator, and master of the universe. I have generated both of you. Shiva punished the Ketki flower for giving false evidence and said that this flower will not be used in my worship. Since the same story, Ketaki flower does not climb in Shiva-worship.
