New Delhi: The Supreme Court today, July 10, extended interim bail provided to former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain on medical grounds till further orders.

This decision came during a hearing presided over by a bench comprising Justice AS Bopanna and Justice MM Sundresh. Along with the extension of bail, the court has also adjourned the matter until July 24.

During the proceedings, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi, representing Mr. Jain, informed the court that three hospitals, namely GB Pant, Apollo, and Max, have recommended surgery for his medical condition. However, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate, raised concerns regarding the validity of the hospitals' reports and requested an independent evaluation at AIIMS.

The court took note of the two medical reports already presented and requested the submission of an additional report. It further directed the concerned party to provide a copy of the report to the Additional Solicitor General. It is important to mention that the Supreme Court had previously granted Mr. Jain interim bail for six weeks in the money laundering case, subject to certain conditions such as refraining from speaking to the media and seeking permission before leaving Delhi.

The court had also given Mr. Jain the liberty to choose any hospital for his medical treatment, emphasizing that the interim bail was granted solely on medical grounds. In response to the denial of bail by the Delhi High Court, Mr. Jain has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the decision. His legal representative highlighted the severe impact of his health condition, citing a significant weight loss of 35 kg and his deteriorating physical state.

To summarize, former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain has successfully obtained an extension of interim bail from the Supreme Court due to medical reasons. The court has taken note of the hospitals' recommendations for surgery but has also acknowledged the need for an independent evaluation.
