Moradabad: In Uttar Pradesh, a large-scale scam has come to light in the name of scholarships given to minority students. The scholarship is given by the Government of India to minority students through the National Scholarship Portal. This is a Post Matric Scholarship Scheme. Scholarships worth more than 10 crore rupees have been embezzled by opening 7000 fake bank accounts in Moradabad, Amroha and Sambal districts of UP. The police investigation has revealed that all the educational institutions and children whose names were used by the gang to grab the scholarship money were fake. The role of officers of the Minority Welfare Department in the gang has also come to light.

Police have arrested a former District Minority Welfare Officer of Amroha on Sunday. The government started transferring money directly to children's bank accounts to check the scam in scholarships, but the scammers also found a break. The case was opened when the Directorate of Minority Welfare had questioned some institutions forwarding the list of students for scholarships. The police investigation revealed that three educational institutions in Moradabad, five in Amroha and 12 in Sambhal were fake. They are just on paper to grab scholarships.

Based on the ED's investigation, three cases were registered on behalf of Hemraj Singh, the District Minority Welfare Officer of Amroha in Kotwali Nagar, Didoli and Dhanora in Amroha. Similarly, a case was registered at Two and Nakhasa police station at Hayatnagar police station in Sambhal. However, no FIR was lodged in Moradabad district. In the cases registered in Amroha, Jitendra Singh, manager Skill Arts Centre Mandi Dhanora, Girish Chandra Arya Manager Rajhans Music Arts Centre Dhanora, Shubham Saxena Manager Music School Ahmed Nagar Amroha and Rakesh Kumar Manager Jagriti Sangeet Vidyalaya Bangla Amroha were accused.
