Railways to reduce fares by 25 per cent in these trains

New Delhi: Railways have decided to reduce fares on some trains. The Railways have taken this decision for the trains with seating chairs. Because the number of passengers on these trains is going down. Railways will give a fare concession of up to 25 percent on these trains. The discount will be available in the fares of Shatabdi, Moving, Tejas, Double Decker, Intercity Express trains, provided only 50 percent of the tickets are booked on that train. The decision, which will come into effect before September 30, has been taken to address the challenges faced by roadways buses and low-cost airlines.

According to a senior railway official, the Railway Ministry has sent a circular to all the railway zones. It empowers them to review the low passenger trains being operated in the frequent, chair car. It has ordered a 25 percent discount on basic fares in case 50 percent of the train seats are booked. Passengers will have to pay GST, reservation charges, superfast charges, and any other charges separately from the ticket. The relief will also be available to the executive chair class passengers.

The circular empowers the principal commercial managers of all railway zones to apply the exemption rule at their discretion for a month, six months or several years. The Centre for Railway Information System has been instructed to develop the software. The fare discount will be available to passengers who board the train at any stage of the journey.

It has been directed to take care of the competitive price while fixing the fare. It also said that no other discounts or Flexi fares, etc., will be applied during the implementation of the scheme. All zones have been asked to implement the scheme by September 30, identifying such trains. Also, four months later, each zone has been instructed to submit a review report. The discount will also be available on a train like India.
