New Delhi: Weather continues to wreak havoc in South India. According to the Meteorological Department, a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal may turn into a cyclonic storm 'Mandous' on December 8. This may cause moderate to heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under its influence. In view of this, a holiday has been declared for schools in the Tiruvarur district and schools and colleges in the Thanjavur district on December 8, 2022.
According to the Meteorological Department, the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has now turned into a deep depression and on Wednesday it was located about 770 km from Chennai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. In a bulletin, the IMD said the deep depression is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and moderate to heavy rainfall under its influence over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This rain can be seen for 3 days.
A low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal turned into a deep depression over the same area on the evening of December 6 and was located about 690 km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 770 km east-southeast of Chennai. It is very likely to reach the southwest Bay of Bengal, north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts on December 8. Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, southern Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema between December 8 and 10. With this, the wind speed can come down to 40-45 kilometers per hour on December 8.
