New Delhi: Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, made an announcement on Thursday stating that both government and private schools would be closed in areas experiencing widespread flooding and waterlogging.

"In areas of Delhi where water levels are rising, all government and private schools will be closed," shared CM Kejriwal in a tweet.

In a subsequent tweet, the chief minister urged all councilors, MLAs, and volunteers to visit relief camps and offer their utmost support. "I implore all volunteers, councilors, MLAs, and individuals from all walks of life to visit relief camps and extend their support," he expressed.

Simultaneously, Delhi's Directorate of Education issued an immediate order to close all government and private schools located in flood-prone areas, without waiting for further instructions.
"Considering the flood situation in Delhi, the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, has issued an order for the immediate closure of all government and private schools situated in low-lying areas, preempting further instructions," stated an official announcement from the Directorate of Education.

Earlier on Thursday, the CM called upon the people of the national capital to remain vigilant and provide necessary aid to one another amidst the flooding caused by the rising waters of the Yamuna River.

"The water level of the Yamuna River is continuously increasing. It has now reached 208.46 meters. Due to this rise, the Yamuna River has spilled onto the surrounding roads. I urge you to avoid these routes. People in affected areas are being evacuated, and I request their cooperation with the authorities. The preservation of lives holds paramount importance. I appeal to the people of Delhi to join hands and support each other in every conceivable way during this emergency," shared CM Kejriwal in a tweet.

Numerous areas of the city remain submerged as the water level of the Yamuna River continues to surge following heavy rainfall and the release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage in neighboring Haryana.

The North East district police reported that over 1000 individuals and approximately 999 livestock have been rescued from various locations near the Yamuna River amidst the ongoing flood situation. The rescue operations took place in Usmanpur, Shastri Park, and Sonia Vihar police station areas.

Also, as per official information, the movement of commercial vehicles will be regulated, with non-destined commercial vehicles prohibited from entering Delhi and redirected to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. The following diversion points for commercial vehicles will be enforced: Mukarba Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Ghazipur border, and the Akshardham route leading to DND.

Officials further stated that no commercial vehicles would be permitted between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad Bridge, Sarai Kale Khan and IP Flyover, as well as Akshardham and Sarai Kale Khan.
