Chennai: Due to severe rains, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has declared a holiday for all government offices in Chennai, Schools and colleges in  Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpatu districts on Friday.

It should be remembered that three people died in Chennai as a result of electrocution, and four subway lines were closed owing to flooding. Three persons have died as a result of electrocution in Chennai and the nearby areas, and disaster and rescue efforts are in full motion.

On Thursday night, Stalin visited the city's flooded districts and met with Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner Gagan Singh Bedi and other officials at the commissioner's office in the Rippon building to assess the situation.

Due to the closure of the subways and extensive flooding in some districts of Chennai, traffic movement was also delayed. Heavy rains have caused the storage level of Chembarambakkam Lake to rise to 98 percent of its complete capacity due to heavy rains. Officials estimate that the inflow is 2900 cusecs, while the outflow from the lake is 1000 cusecs.
