Schools in Tripura are reopened for classes 10 and 12 on Monday in between of this deadly virus. Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited the schools and colleges to inspect the preparation and response of the students regarding coronavirus norms.

On the first day, 50 percent of the students turned up for classes. Ratan Lal Nath said, as reported by ANI “It was decided to open schools and colleges. Reopening of schools became essential for class 10th and 12th students ahead of their board exams. I visited some of the schools to check the preparedness, I also visited women’s college here and the arrangements there were also satisfactory. Teachers were also present in good strength.” 

Students reaction on coming back to schools

Sunayna Ghosh, a student, as reported by ANI made the statement, “We used to attend online classes before regular classes started. We feel really good to be back in school. My parents have also permitted me to attend regular classes. We met our teachers and friends after so long. We are taking adequate measures to protect ourselves." Whereas, another student said, “The schools were shut earlier when cases were rising rapidly. We were taking online classes since the lockdown was imposed, it became boring, but now that the regular classes have commenced students are really happy to be back at the school. Classmates will be again studying together,” as reported by ANI.

SOPs for schools

A set of important guidelines has been made mandatory regarding the norms of social distancing. Every school has to have handwashing facilities, sanitization facilities, thermal checking on arrival, while students and teachers are required to wear masks all the time.

Also, students are also requested to get a written consent letter from their parents for admission in resumed classes. Schools have also taken additional measures to reduce the student load by arranging odd-even and boys-girls alternate day present arrangements to maintain physical distance in classrooms. Earlier, the state government had decided to reopen schools on December 1. However, it did not receive any clearance from the Health Department. Therefore, the government withdrew its decision before the reopening date.
