On Friday, a Franco-Swiss airport faced a sudden evacuation due to security concerns. The temporary closure of EuroAirport, located on the French side near Basel, came just hours after a series of arson attacks severely disrupted the French rail network. These attacks occurred in the lead-up to the highly anticipated Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

EuroAirport announced on its website that it had reopened and was gradually resuming flight operations. Earlier, the airport, which serves as a key gateway for the region, had been closed for safety reasons, according to news agency AFP.

In addition to the airport evacuation, Eurostar passengers traveling from London to Paris were advised to delay their trips if possible. The Guardian reported that several trains faced significant delays and cancellations as a result of the attacks. The French rail network experienced severe interruptions, affecting hundreds of thousands of travelers.

French authorities are currently searching for those responsible for the arson attacks. The French rail operator, SNCF, confirmed that three separate nighttime attacks had targeted cabling boxes at crucial junctions within the rail network. These incidents occurred in various locations: north, south-west, and east of Paris. A fourth attack was attempted southeast of the capital but was thwarted by vigilant rail workers who spotted the intruders early Friday morning.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal condemned the attacks as "prepared and coordinated acts of sabotage" and emphasized that they were aimed at blocking high-speed train routes to Paris. He took to social media platform X to assure the public that intelligence services and law enforcement are fully mobilized to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

French Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete also addressed the situation on X, noting that "coordinated malicious acts targeted several TGV lines last night and will seriously disrupt traffic until this weekend." The attacks are expected to have widespread effects on travel, impacting millions of people during this crucial period.

The situation remains fluid as authorities continue their investigation and efforts to restore normalcy to the affected transport networks.
