Srinagar: A terrorist has been killed in the ongoing encounter in shopian district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The campaign is currently underway. The encounter began on Wednesday in Nadigam area of Shopian. The security forces had received inputs that terrorists were hiding in the area. A police spokesman said that acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in Nadigam area of the district, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Earlier in the last month, security forces had managed to kill two terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian.
The Kashmir Zone Police has informed that several weapons were recovered from the spot. The slain terrorists were members of The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. He said the identity of the slain terrorist is yet to be ascertained.
A police official said that on receiving information about the presence of militants in south Kashmir's Kilbal area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation. He said that during the operation, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, after which the force also retaliated and the encounter started.
