Raipur: Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has been vigilantly monitoring both legal and illegal activities in Chhattisgarh. Monitoring teams have been deployed in every district to oversee election-related activities and take action against any irregularities.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect immediately after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 dates, prompting the Chhattisgarh Election Commission to take necessary precautions. Checkpoints have been set up at various locations across the state for thorough inspection.
According to official data provided by the Chhattisgarh Election Commission, goods with a total value of Rs 20.40 crore have been seized during these inspections. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Apoorva Priyash Toppo reported that since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on March 16, seizures have included Rs 4.82 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 37 lakh, medicines valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore, precious metals worth Rs 94 lakh, and other goods worth over Rs 12 crore.
Significant actions have been observed in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Mahasamund districts, with the Income Tax Department taking prominent action in Raipur district.
