Former MP and senior party leader AP Abdullakutty praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the “PM has become popular because he has imbibed Gandhian values in his governance". The former MP from Kerala’s Kannur, in a Facebook post, said, "This win in election is certainly due to the wide acceptance of Modi’s development agenda. PM Modi has reflected Mahatma Gandhi’s word that ‘when you develop a policy, you should remember the face of the poorest in his rule’. Swachch Bharath and Ujwala Yojana are examples of this.”

Abdullakutty, who is a top Muslim leader, said that the victory is a reward for the governance strategies and the development agenda of the Modi government. “Through the Swacch Bharat scheme, he gave toilets to 9.26 crore families. He gave free electricity, gas connections to six crore families,” the Congress leader further said.

BJP led-NDA registered a landmark victory in the recently held Lok Sabha polls by winning 303 seats in the 543-member lower house.
