New Delhi: Senior leader of Communist Party of India (CPI) and former MP Gurudas Dasgupta passed away on Thursday. He was 82 years old. Gurudas was a member of the Rajya Sabha 3 times and 2 times in the Lok Sabha in his political career. Gurudas Dasgupta, one of the senior leftist leaders of the country, first became a Rajya Sabha MP in 1985. After this, in 1988, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the second time.

Gurudas Dasgupta reached the Rajya Sabha for the third time in 1994. However, after being a Rajya Sabha MP for 3 times, he went to contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and won. During this time he was also a member of the Finance Committee and Public Undertaking Committee. Gurudas Dasgupta was elected to the Lok Sabha for the second consecutive time in 2009 after 2004. During this time he was also the leader of the parliamentary party of the Communist Party of India in the Lok Sabha. Along with this he was associated with many parliamentary committees.

Gurudas Dasgupta, known for his sharp speech style, was keenly interested in cricket and Rabindra Sangeet. He was also associated with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and served as a member of the cab there. Gurudas Dasgupta was born on 3 November 1936. Gurudas Dasgupta has been a member of the Rajya Sabha thrice, as well as he was counted among the veteran leaders of the country.
