Sensex climb 887 pts, Nifty hits at 17,177; Banking stock lead

On Tuesday, the key benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty ended the day in the green, with gains seen across global markets. The BSE benchmark Sensex was up 886.51 points, or 1.56 percent, at 57,633.65, and the Nifty was up 264.40 points, or 1.56 percent, at 17,176.70 at the closing. About 2278 shares have increased in value, 924 shares have decreased in value, and 114 shares have remained steady.

The top Nifty gainers included Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and Tata Motors. Cipla, Britannia Industries, Divis Labs, IOC, and Asian Paints were among the losers. All sectors indices closed the day in the green, with bank stocks, metal, and real estate stocks all adding 2 percent to 3 percent.

The broader markets ended the day with substantial gains as well. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices both gained over 1 percent. On the BSE, there were 2,328 gaining shares vs 952 dropping equities, indicating a very good overall breadth.

On December 8, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will publish its policy decision, investors attention will focus on results.
