Sensex climbs 1197 Points, Nifty Tops 14647 Levels

Indian equities extended their budget day gains to the second consecutive day and continued their winning streak on Tuesday.  

At the time of closing, the NSE Nifty settled higher by 367 points at 14648, while BSE Sensex ended with gains of 1197 points at 49,798 . In early trade, Sensex reclaimed 50,000 levels but later pared some gains.

Among top gainers on the Sensex in today's deal are stocks like SBI, UltraTech Cement, HDFC Bank, HDFC and Larsen & Toubro, while HDFC Life, Bajaj Finserv, Hero Motocorp, SBI Life Insurance and Titan are among the top losers on the index.

Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty Bank index gained the most, ending 3.6 percent higher at 34,267. The Nifty Auto index was the outperformer in today's session, ending with gains of 4 percent.

Indices like the Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and the PSU Bank index also witnessed gains of over 3 percent. Gains on the PSU Bank index were led by State Bank of India while Zee Ent and Sun TV added the gains on the Media index. However, the Nifty FMCG underperformer in today's session, ending little changed.

Broader markets ended higher but gains were modest for the Small caps as compared to the benchmark indices. The Nifty Mid-Cap index ended 2.4 percent higher while the Small-Cap index ended with gains of 1.2 percent.
