In the holiday-shortened week, Sensex, Nifty traded with gains of 1.6 percent in Tuesday's session at around 10:30 am. The BSE Sensex traded with gains of 788 points at 49797-level whereas the NSE Nifty gained 242 points at 14750 marks. Broader markets however underperformed their peers with gains of 1.2 percent on the Nifty Midcap 100.
Top gainers in the Sensex are Tata Steel, UPL, Jsw Steel, NTPC and SHREE Cement, two losers were Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti
Among the sectoral indices, the Metal index is the top gainer, opening 1.5 percent higher. The Nifty Bank index has opened with gains of 300 points while the PSU Bank index is up 1 percent at the start of trade. The Nifty Pharma index is up 0.9 percent while the Nifty I.T., Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Media indices are all gaining in excess of 0.5 percent.
Broader markets have opened higher in comparison to the benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap index opened 1.1 percent higher while the Smallcap index rose a similar quantum at the start of trade.
