MUMBAI: Stocks of financial companies remained strong on the first trading day of the week after closing for the day on Monday. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) main index Sensex gained 0.95 percent to close at 38788.08, up 364.36 points. At the same time, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Sensitive Index Nifty gained 0.83 percent to close at 11466.45 with a gain of 94.85 points.

Between the steady flow of foreign funds and the rise in the domestic stock markets, the rupee traded up in the foreign exchange market on Monday and the rupee rose 52 paise to close at 74.32 per dollar (provisional) against the US currency. Along with this, the rupee's rise has also been supported by the weakening of the dollar against the main global currencies.

The rupee opened lower at 74.91 in the interbank foreign exchange market. But later it strengthened and during the business it moved in the range of Rs 74.31 to Rs 74.91. At the end of trading, it closed at 74.32 per dollar with a rise of 52 paise. According to data from stock exchanges, foreign investors bought shares worth Rs 410.16 crore net on Friday. Meanwhile, the price of global benchmark Brent crude rose 0.60 per cent to $ 45.20 per barrel.
