Key benchmark indices, Sensex – Nifty, closed at record high levels Monday propelled by strong global cues after the US presidential election outcome and sustained foreign capital inflow into the Indian market.
At close, the BSE Sensex ended 704.37 points higher at 42,597.43 while the NSE Nifty gained 197.05 points to close at 12,461.05. Nifty Bank index surged 3 percent. Nifty Smallcap100 gained 0.33 percent while Nifty Midcap100 gained 0.87 percent. All the sectoral indices closed in the green led by Nifty Private Bank, Metals, IT and Nifty FMCG.
Divi's Laboratories, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank led gains among Nifty50 pack of stocks while Cipla, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki, ITC and Grasim Industries were the top index losers. Shares of Divi's Laboratories ended over 5 percent higher after the company posted impressive numbers for the quarter ended September 2020. The shares hit a record high intraday.
European stocks rallied as markets across the world made gains on Joe Biden's victory as the next President of the United States. The pan-European Stoxx 600 rose 1.5 percent in early trade, with travel and leisure stocks adding 2.9 percent to lead gains.
