MUMBAI: The Indian government's Rs 20 lakh crore package is proving to be a failure to bail out the markets. Today on Monday, the market opened strongly but quickly fell apart. The Sensex is down 898.13 points at 30,199.60 while the Nifty is trading at 8,879.60, down 235.25 points.

Earlier today, the Sensex opened 150.53 points and the Nifty gained 21.45 points. However, the Sensex fell below the 1000 mark in the first half-hour of trading. Earlier on Friday, the markets closed with a fall. The Sensex opened 173.39 points and the Nifty 39.65 points strongly on that day. IndusInd Bank is trading 7.86 per cent, ICICI Bank 7.44 per cent, Zee Entertainment 6.94 per cent and AXIS Bank 6.82 per cent. On the other hand, Cipla, Bharti Infratel, Infosys and ITC are up by 3.30%.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave the full account of the self-sufficient India package worth more than Rs 20 lakh crore on Sunday. This package was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. This package also includes packages that have been issued prior to this announcement. After PM Modi's announcement, the Finance Minister was announcing packages and reforms for various sectors every day from Wednesday to Sunday. It had its fifth and final phase on Sunday.
