The Serum Institute of India has increased the price of doses of polio vaccine to be purchased under polio vaccination programme. The new price fixed by the SII is more than double the previous purchase rate. In view of the increased price, a government procurement committee has decided to appeal to the Union Health Minister to discuss the price with the company.
According to sources, SII has recently demanded Rs 188 per dose in lieu of supply of 1.80 lakh doses of polio, which does not include tax. The price fixed by the SII is 106 from the previous price. 65 percent more. The Integrated Procurement Committee (IPC) was held on 28th May, 31st May and 1st June under the Chairmanship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS). The meeting was scheduled to procure 1.80 lakh doses of IPB for 2021-22 under the Regular Immunization Programme.
It may be noted that last year, the IPC had purchased the same vaccine at the price of Rs.91 per dose, which did not include tax. The IPC has said that the prices of vaccines have been increased drasticy. At present, IPC asked the company to review the increased price. However, on behalf of SII, Government and Director of Regulatory Affairs Prakash Kumar Singh had made it clear on May 31 that the company had fixed the price of the vaccine and would not reduce it.
