Severe Heatwave Expected to Scorch Delhi with Temperatures Soaring to 46 Degrees Celsius

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a severe heatwave for Delhi on Monday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 46 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded was 29.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 degrees above normal. This intense heat is likely to persist in the national capital for the next four days.

On Sunday, Delhi registered a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal, as recorded by the Safdarjung weather observatory. The city has been experiencing maximum temperatures above 40 degrees since last week, offering no relief from the heat. According to the IMD's seven-day forecast, the maximum temperature will remain around 46 degrees for the next three days, before dropping to 45 degrees on Thursday, 44 degrees on Friday, and 43 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

The weather office has predicted light rain on Friday and a partly cloudy sky on Saturday.

Mungeshpur in Delhi was the hottest area on Sunday, with a maximum temperature of 48.3 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Najafgarh at 48.1 degrees. These temperatures were at least 8 degrees above normal, according to the Met Department.

Heatwave Alert in Other States

The IMD has also issued heatwave alerts for several other states. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana for the next five days. West Uttar Pradesh will also experience heatwave conditions on Monday and Tuesday. Parts of Jammu and Himachal Pradesh will face heatwave conditions from Monday to Thursday, while Madhya Pradesh will see similar conditions from Monday to Wednesday. Chhattisgarh will experience heatwave conditions from Tuesday to Wednesday, and Maharashtra and Gujarat on Monday.

Phalodi in Rajasthan was the hottest place in the country on Sunday, with temperatures reaching 49.8 degrees Celsius. The city had recorded 50 degrees just a day earlier. The intense heatwave in Rajasthan has already resulted in two deaths, as the state continues to face extreme temperatures.
