Seychelles Vice-President Ahmed Afif landed in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers.

Upon arrival, Afif was welcomed by Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) of the Ministry of External Affairs.

India and Seychelles have significantly enhanced cooperation in various fields in recent years, primarily due to facing common security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). This partnership is based on India's principles of SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region), 'Neighbourhood First' policy, and the 'Five S' vision articulated by PM Modi—Sammaan (Respect), Samvaad (Dialogue), Sahyog (Cooperation), Shanti (Peace), and Samriddhi (Prosperity).

President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles expressed hope that Narendra Modi's third term would strengthen bilateral relations and help address the "multiple global and regional challenges" faced by both nations in the IOR.

In a congratulatory message to PM Modi on Wednesday, Ramkalawan conveyed warmest congratulations on his re-election as Prime Minister of India. He praised Modi's visionary leadership and the remarkable progress India has achieved under his stewardship.

Highlighting the "special relationship" between Seychelles and India, President Ramkalawan noted that both countries have been working closely on various mutual interests, including military cooperation, health, education, and infrastructure development.

"Our collaboration in maritime security has been crucial in ensuring the safety and stability of the Indian Ocean Region," Ramkalawan added. He emphasized the joint efforts in cultural exchanges and human resource development, which have fostered mutual respect and understanding between the peoples of both nations.
