Born in Sunam, Shaheed Udham Singh is known for his never to be forgotten participation in the freedom battle of India against England.
Sir Michael O’Dwyer was the Governor of Punjab who is known for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is said that when he was on his way to execute his plans for the destruction of the country, Udham Singh shot him to death.
For his extreme participation in the Battle for freedom, and for his efforts to kick the Britishers out of the country, Udham Singh was sentenced to death in the Pentonville prison, situated in England, on the 31st of July, 1940.
As per the reports, Udham Singh worked in the North Western Railway. He was also rewarded with the India General Service medal as per the Waziristan campaign which took place during the period of 1919-20.
The day when the brutal incident of the massacre took place, he was not in the country. When he returned and came to know about the same, he felt shattered and was highly affected by it. Since then, he chose to fight for his country and its people.
His contribution in the freedom of the country shall always be remembered.
