After his characterization of the Maharawal Ratan Singh in the much-controversial film in the Bollywood ‘Padmavati’, Shahid Kapoor has signed his next film already. The film titled ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ will be directed by ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ director Shree Narayan Singh. Earlier there were rumours that Katrina Kaif was also to be cast in the film, however, Illeana D’Cruz has been finalized for the role as of now.

Talking about the Baadshaho actress’ role, Prerna Arora, who is co-producing the film, “We have only spoken to Ileana so far. It is a strong role of a lawyer with intense scenes and we are casting now.” Only yesterday we learnt that Shahid Kapoor’s role in Batti Gul Meter Chalu will be of a lawyer. Ileana D’Cruz will be filling in the shoes in a capacity opposite him as a lawyer as well. And as for Shahid Kapoor’s love interest in the film, actresses like Katrina Kaif and Shraddha Kapoor remain in contention for the role.

The film’s teaser was released on Diwali. “The subject of the film is very relevant to our times. Diwali makes it just the right occasion for us to shed light on a subject that needs to be discussed. We look forward to making a film that is both commercially entertaining and encourages a social conversation,” said Shree Narayan Singh. The film is slated for a release on August 31, 2018.
