Mumbai: The stock market closed higher on the fourth trading day of the week on Thursday after trading for the entire day. Today, the Bombay Stock Exchange's main sensitive index Sensex gained 1.12 percent to close at 36737.69, up 408.68 points. On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange's major index Nifty gained 1.01 percent to close at 108.70 points at 10813.45. On Wednesday, the market closed down after a five-day rally.
Talking about the big stocks, today the stocks of Hindalco, GAIL, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Tech, HDFC, SBI, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank and M&M have seen strong gains. Shares of Infratel, ONGC, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro, Maruti, Coal India, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Hindustan Unilever and Britannia closed down. Earlier today, the stock market started strongly. The Sensex opened at the level of 36524.09 with a gain of 195.08 points, or 0.54 per cent. At the same time, the Nifty opened at 10760.45 level with a strength of 0.51 percent i.e. 54.70 points.
The stock market closed with a fall on the previous trading day. Whereas before this, the Sensex-Nifty was seeing strength for five consecutive days. The Sensex fell 0.94 percent yesterday to close at 3432.51 points, down 345.51 points. At the same time, the Nifty fell 0.87 percent to 970.75 points and closed at 10705.75.
