New Delhi: The Government of India sent a summon to the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom after an 'inappropriate discussion' on the farmers' movement in the British Parliament. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed his reaction to this matter. Recently, he said, "In any democracy, anyone is free to discuss any issue." Shahi who has served as the foreign minister during the UPA's tenure gives his response saying "Just as we have been discussing or doing the Palestine-Israel issue in India, or if we want to discuss any domestic issue of any other country. In the same way, the British Parliament has the same authority."
He further said, 'There is no fault of the government. It is doing the required job with its point of view, but we have to understand that there is a different viewpoint and elected representatives in a democracy are free to express their views.' He added, 'I don't think there is anything surprising in this. It should be seen as something happening in the midst of democratic countries.' Earlier we said that the Government of India had summoned the British High Commissioner after the discussion on new agricultural laws in the British Parliament.
The Ministry of External Affairs had also reacted strongly to this on Tuesday. Ministry stated, 'The government has expressed its strong opposition to the unfair and controversial discussion on India's agricultural reform laws in the British Parliament.' Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla had issued a statement and clarified that this debate is a serious interference in the politics of another democratic country.
