Senior Congress leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin urged Congress President Rahul Gandhi to not resign from the post of party president.

After a huge defeat in Lok Sabha election 2019, Rahul Gandhi offered to resign during the party's meet that was called to deliberate on its Lok Sabha debacle, only to get it unanimously rejected by the Congress Working Committee (CWC). However, as per source, Rahul insists on resigning from the post and get someone from outside the Gandhi-Nehru family selected to his place.

Earlier in the day, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad also publically advised Rahul to change his mind as his decision.  Lalu said that if Rahul steps down it would not only ring the death knell for his party but all forces who are fighting against the Sangh Parivar.

A day after the CWC, it's being said that Rahul met senior Congress leaders Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal and categorically told them to find his replacement. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi are said to be on the same plane as Rahul. Both agree with Rahul that "a change of guard and a total reset is needed."
