Chicago: Atheer Abdulrahman S. Alquahtani, a Saudi national, was identified as the drowning victim from Monday's incident at Avalanche Creek by Glacier National Park police on Friday.
When her academic year ended, the victim—a Lawrence, Kansas–based University of Kansas student—left for a road trip to see the sights.
According to a statement released by the police on Friday, Alquahtani was swept into the gorge after falling off a rocky overhang on Monday and into Avalanche Creek in Montana.
The park police also stated that Alquahtani was seen by witnesses in the creek. Observers dove into the water, pulled the woman out, and started CPR right away. Witnesses got in touch with park rangers.
After hearing about the tragedy, a medical team was called, and workers by the side of the creek banks pronounced Alquahtani dead.
Alquahtani had reportedly just finished the first year of her master's programme at the University of Kansas, according to friends.

She was on a road trip tour of national parks, they added, to commemorate finishing her first academic year. To the sheriff's police, her friends described her as "a risk-taker" who "loved getting in and being near water."
According to law enforcement investigators, there were no signs of wrongdoing. Since the incident happened off-trail, many visitors take the same risk there. At Glacier National Park, drowning-related accidents are the leading cause of fatalities.
