In a recent development, Mumbai's Sessions Court has directed the police to investigate allegations of cheating against actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra. The order follows a complaint filed by a bullion trader accusing them of financial fraud.
Serious Allegations Prompt Court Action
The court, led by Judge NP Mehta, found merit in the complaint filed by bullion trader Prithviraj Saremal Kothari, signaling a preliminary investigation into the matter. As per the court's directives, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police station will conduct the probe.
FIR to Be Filed if Allegations Are Substantiated
Additionally, the court has instructed that if the investigation establishes the veracity of the accusations, the police should register an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC.
Case Background
According to Kothari's legal representatives in court, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra are the founders of Satyug Gold Private Limited, which launched a scheme in 2014. The scheme purportedly promised to provide gold at discounted rates upon application and assured delivery on a specified maturity date. Kothari invested ₹90 lakhs in this scheme but allegedly did not receive the promised 5000 grams of 24-carat gold upon its maturity in 2019. Subsequently, in 2020, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra reportedly issued a post-dated check of ₹90 lakhs, the principal amount invested.
These actions have led Kothari to accuse Shilpa and Raj of reneging on their commitment. This news has stirred significant attention within both Bollywood and financial circles, with many awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
