With the alliance of BSP and Shiromani Akali Dal, the Akali Dal is now exploring its political prospects in UP. If the political multiplication of the Akali Dal sits well with Mayawati in UP, the Akali Dal will be able to contest other Sikh and Punjabi dominated seats in the state including the Terai areas of UP. Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed his intention to contest in Uttar Pradesh earlier also. This time, the 25-year-old alliance between BJP and Akali has been broken in Punjab. The BSP and the Akali Dal are also looking at it as a new political possibility in UP. Just looking at the alliance of BSP and Shiromani Akali Dal up to Punjab is like underestimating the scenario of upcoming elections in UP. It has been learnt that in the internal dialogue between BSP and Shiromani Akali Dal, the Akali Dal is going to contest by giving some seats to the Akali Dal in sikh and punjabi dominated seats in UP. The highest potential is from Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit and some parts of Lakhimpur Kheri, a Sikh dominated area of UP. In addition, there are surrounding areas including Bareilly. Barring 2007, bsp has not won in many of these districts. Giving seats to the Akali Dal increases the chances of getting some seats.
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal had also expressed his intention to contest in UP during the general elections in 2019. In fact, the figure of Sikhs and Punjabis in about 44 assembly seats in UP is considered as decisive voters. A Shiromani Akali Dal leader said that the local people of Sikhs and Punjabis working in these areas are also voting at his behest. For this reason, Sikhs and Punjabis not only have their own vote bank in these seats but also increase the vote percentage at their behest. The leader says the Shiromani Akali Dal is going to decide with The Akali Dal high command and BSP supremo Mayawati whether it will contest in UP or not, but there is a lot of potential for the Shiromani Akali Dal in Uttar Pradesh.
Broken Akali and BJP alliance to have an impact in Punjab In Uttar Pradesh, Sikhs and Punjabis were once called the vote bank of the Congress in UP, but the trust of Sikhs who migrated from Punjab to Terai area after the 1984 incident has been associated with the Akali Dal since its inception. Since Punjab had an alliance between Akali and BJP, in UP, the BJP continued to benefit from seats dominated by Sikhs and Punjabis. This time the picture has changed. In Punjab, the 25-year-old relationship between Akali and the BJP has been broken in the upcoming assembly elections. Political experts say the impact will be visible in Uttar Pradesh as well. Samajwadi Party also brought akali leader for Sikhs Up Once former MP Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, who was among the stalwarts of the Akali Dal, was also bet by the Samajwadi Party. Balwant Singh Ramuwalia has been made cabinet minister in the UP government. Balwant Singh Ramuwalia also campaigned to divert more and more votes for samajwadi party in Terai and Sikh and Punjabi dominated areas of UP. Similarly, BSP bet on Punjabi leader Romi Sahni in Terai area of UP, especially in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur and Shahjahanpur areas. In the same area, VM Singh, the cousin of senior farmer leader and MP Maneka Gandhi, also emerged as a senior Sikh leader.
