Union Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While submitting his resignation to regional president Dr. Dharmendra Singh, he became so emotional that he started crying.

While resigning from the party at his residence in Bettiahata in Gorakhpur, Shiv Pratap Shukla recalled his 39-year-old political journey and said that he could no longer be a member of the party due to the responsibility of a constitutional post. He thanked President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the party's central leadership for giving him the responsibility of governor of Himachal Pradesh and said that he would try his best to fulfill the responsibilities and expectations associated with this post.  

Shiv Pratap Shukla will take oath as governor on February 18. He said that he had never dreamt that he might have to resign from the party. It is an emotional moment for me because I have to resign from the organization in which every moment of my life has been spent. But now he has resigned today in the circumstances arising due to the responsibility he has received. He said that I know that after discharging the post when I come again to do social service, I will remain in BJP only. The entire program of swearing-in of Shiv Pratap Shukla as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh has been decided. He will reach Shimla by the evening of 17 February. On February 18, he will take oath as Governor.
