Shiv Sena said that the Mumbai Metro project will go ahead, leaving behind the bullet train project. The Sena suggested that it is looking land given for the bullet train project in Mumbai, if Kanjurmarg metro car shed project is stopped. On Tuesday, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said on the floor of assembly, “No one had asked for a bullet train. Bullet train is for whom?”
There is a political tug of war between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over the car shed for Mumbai Metro. After the project was shifted out of Aarey, and began in Kanjurmarg, the salt commissioner had claimed that proper procedure was not followed before allotting the land for the car shed project. The case is currently in Bombay High Court, and the state government has been asked to follow due process.
The Shiv Sena is annoyed over the litigation, and said “Opposition is leaving no opportunity unturned to create hurdles in the development work of Mumbai. Losses to Maharashtra government are losses to people. The opposition should understand this. Even if the Kanjurmarg land belongs to the Government of India, it can be used for infrastructure projects. What is the harm? Such hurdles are never created in BJP-ruled Gujarat.”
