Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) family has regrouped after seeing Dimple Yadav heading toward victory in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh and Shivpal have joined hands with each other, forgetting all their frustrations. Shivpal Yadav has returned home to SP after seeing daughter-in-law Dimple winning. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday merged the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (SP) with the Samajwadi Party at the SS Memorial School in Saifai.

During this, Akhilesh Yadav also presented the party's election symbol bicycle to uncle Shivpal Yadav. As soon as the SP and PSP merged, there was an atmosphere of celebration among the supporters of both parties. After his father joined the SP, son Aditya Yadav and nephew Abhishek Yadav also took out the PSP flag from their vehicles and put up the SP flag. SP and Shivpal have also shared a picture of the merger of SP with PSP from their respective handles on Twitter. In September 2016, the fight for supremacy in the party and the government started between the then CM Akhilesh Yadav and cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav.

On January 1, 2017, Akhilesh was appointed SP chief. After that Shivpal party reached the margins. Shivpal Yadav formed Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (SP) in August 2018, alleging that he did not get "respect" in the party. Shivpal had contested the 2019 Firozabad Lok Sabha seat against SP candidate Akshay Yadav. Although he could not win, he got more than 90 thousand votes, which was considered a major reason for the defeat of the SP candidate.
