Shivpal Yadav seeks alliance with Congress in UP for Lok Sabha election

Lucknow: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief Shivpal Yadav on Saturday said that SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is with him and wants an alliance with the Congress in the upcoming General election.

Shival told ANI, "I know Neta Ji is with me. I have made this party with his permission. But he is attached to the party that he founded. I had requested to be included in the alliance of secular party. I had requested Akhilesh also. We want an alliance with Congress and have spoken to some leaders of the party as well.”

SP under leadrdhip of Akhilesh Yadav has already entered into an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and the  Rashtriya Lok Dal. As per the alliance, SP will contest on 37 seats while the BSP on 38. Three seats have been given to the RLD and the Congress' family bastions of Raebareli and Amethi have been left alone. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is Amethi MP and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi from Raebareli.

Meanwhile, SP on Friday also released its first candidate list for the general elections which included Mulayam Singh Yadav, who will be contesting from Mainpuri parliamentary constituency. The list also includes the name of  SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav's son Akshay Yadav, who will contest from Firozabad.
