The month of Shrawan, more popularly known as Savan, is considered the amongst the holiest months of the Hindu calendar to commence a deed. It is the month which is most suitable to please the Lord of destruction, Shiva.
Shrawan is celebrated all over the country for a lot of reasons, the major reason being, it brings a pleasant breeze after the burning Summers.
As per the Astrologers, the onset of Shrawan marks the entry of the Sun in the Leo.
Shrawan Somvaar ( Mondays of the month) are considered very holy and a lot of Hindus practise fasting on these days.
The month also hosts various festivals like Kamik Ekadashi followed by Hariyali Teeja, Nag Panchami, Shravana Putrada Ekadashi, Varalakshmi Vrat, Narali Purnima and the last day of the month marks the Festival of Rakshabandhan.
Sawan also marks the month in which the Samudra Manthan was performed. The Samudra Manthan involved the churning of the ocean which produced 14 things. One of its by-products was Poison which was consumed by Shiva, in order to save the world.
The Sawan Somvar vrats are practised by the devotees to apologize for their sins, to seek knowledge, wisdom, and many other aspirations like getting married.
