New Delhi: Shripad Naik today took over as minister of state for tourism. Shripad Naik is an MP in the Lok Sabha of India and minister of state in the present Central Government. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from North Goa seat in Goa on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A businessman by profession, a Businessman representing the BJP, is a Lok Sabha MP from North Goa constituency.
Naik started his political career in 1999, was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Panaji constituency in Goa. He won 2004, 2009, and 2014 elections. As of 2014, he is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha and minister of state for the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from North Goa and won against Congress candidate Girish Rai by a margin of more than 1,00,000 votes.
He was inducted into Modi's cabinet as MoS (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of AYUSH MoS in the Defence Ministry. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he was re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha (fourth term), defeating Ravi Naik of the Congress by 10,599 votes, which is too much for a small state in Goa. He was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha (third period), defeating Jitendra Raghuraj Deshprabhu of the Congress by 6,353 votes.
