Geneva: India slammed Pakistan on the issue of minorities in the United Nations (UN). India's Joint Secretary at the United Nations, Srinivas Gotru, surrounded Pakistan and said that Pakistan itself, which gives knowledge on the rights of minorities, has been violating the rules. In fact, all the representatives were presenting their country's point of view on the issue of minorities. When it came to Pakistan's turn, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made more rhetoric about India than his country and said that there is Islamophobia in India.

Responding to his remarks, Srinivas Gotru said that it is strange that Pakistan itself, which raises the issue of minorities, has been violating the rights of minorities like Hindus and Sikhs and is using words like Islamophobia. He said that the cases of kidnap, forced marriage and conversion of girls from minority societies are well known in Pakistan. The Joint Secretary also said that there is a separate ministry for the welfare of minorities in India, whose job is to protect the interests of religious and linguistic minorities.

He further said that he was compelled to respond to the delegation which had misused the platform of the United Nations by making false allegations against India. Srinivas said that everyone knows what Pakistan has done to minorities. There the rights of minorities like Sikhs, Hindus, Christians and Ahmadis are being continuously violated. He hit back at Pakistan on the issue of Kashmir, saying, 'Jammu and Kashmir are an integral and inseparable part of India. We ask Pakistan to stop cross-border terrorism so that our citizens can exercise their right to life and liberty. We hope they will not try to misuse and politicize such meetings.

Let us inform you that Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto while commenting on India in the United Nations, said that India is turning into a Hindu nation. Bilawal said 'One of the worst examples of this type of Islamophobia today is in India inspired by Hindutva. Driven by the ideology of hatred against Muslims, the (ruling) BJP-RSS regime is executing its age-old plan to destroy India's Islamic heritage and turn it into a Hindu nation.' India gave a befitting reply to Bhutto's statement.
