Significance of the Tandava Night "Mahashivratri"
Share:

Mahashivratri is one of the largest and most significant among the sacred festival nights of India. It is the day when Shiva Tattva touches the earth. It is the wedding of the material with the spiritual, and that is the day of MAHASHIVRATRI. It presents us with a unique opportunity to make use of the forces of nature for our well-being.

Mahashivratri is the night when the Shiva energy is closest to the Earth. To experience this energy, people sit together, chant and meditate.

Chanting or hearing the Rudram, an ancient hymn that glorifies the Shiva Energy bestows everything we may desire in this world. It is said that even if a single devout reciter of the Rudram lives in a village or a town, the entire community reaps the benefits, and becomes free from diseases, droughts, thefts and other ills.

Another important aspect of Mahashivratri is chanting the "Om Namah Shivaya" mantra which is the basic of existence, all of that is, that was and that will ever be.

Shivratri is taking refuge in one's own spirit (shiva). It is the day that we celebrate the "soul" or "spirit" (shiva tattva) within ourselves. It is the night of celebration of nature rejoicing the presence of benevolence, truth, and beauty.
