New Delhi: Singapore's daily 'The Straits Times' has named six people, including Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's largest vaccine-producing institution, for the 'Asian of the Year' honour. This year those who have contributed to the war against the Corona epidemic have been chosen for this honour.

Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) is working with Oxford University and the British-Sweden company AstraZeneca to prepare the Covishield vaccine for the Covid-19 and is undergoing vaccine trials in India. In addition to Poonawala, the list includes five others, including Chinese researcher Zhang Yongzhen who led the first entire genome detection team of the epidemic-responsible SARS-COV-2, Major General Chen Wei of China, Dr Yuichi Morishita of Japan and Professor I Ing Aung of Singapore are included.

These are the people who are leading the vaccine against the virus. South Korean businessman Seo Jung-jin is also named in the list, his company will also work to manufacture and provide the vaccine.
